The Lock-On Defense system allows pilots to deploy a bundle of charged particles that can fool incoming guided ordnance if released at the right moment. The default key to release the countermeasure bundle is C. This system pairs well with the Lock-On Warning system.

*Pressing key releases bundle of energetic particles that attempt to confuse incoming missiles and torpedoes

The Lock-On Defense upgrade is Core Mining Industries only venture outside of mining equipment. Crude but effective, the Lock-On Defense upgrade releases a swarm of energized particles that attempt to confuse locked-on weapons. Coupled with the Lock-On Warning upgrade, it is an effective way to survive guided missile or torpedo attacks. The big disadvantage of the system is that the pilot has to remember to fire the system using the “C” (countermeasures) key on his central computer keypad. This upgrade gives the pilot time to take evasive action or attempt to target and destroy the incoming missile. The Lock-On Defense must be recharged at a starbase after 30 uses.

Notes[]

  • Multiple ships throughout the campaign use Lock-On Defense which can make scoring a hit on them with guided ordnance difficult.
  • If you don't have access to the EMP Projector, the best way to disable ships that use Lock-On Defense, most notably Redship Rory, is to line up behind the targeted ship and launch the missile. If aimed correctly, the missile will still hit the target even if they use a countermeasure.
